"Sisterhood in Alpha Omicron Pi means much more than attending meetings, going to social events and wearing Greek letters. It is a feeling of belonging to a group of women who accept you for who you are and encourage you to develop into who you want to become. In AOII, you can find a place where you feel at home. You can count on your sisters in good times and in bad, strive for your goals as a chapter, and draw sisters together in one strong bond. Through it all, you will make friendships that will last a lifetime."

- Susan Danko, International President of Alpha Omicron Pi

Membership

What's involved? What you do as a member...

We hold weekly meetings to discuss the running of the chapter and to organize events, as well as hold educational sessions. We also devote some of our time to raising money for local charities and the Juvenile Arthritis Foundation, AOII's philanthropy, by participating in a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. We have social events as well with with other Greek organizations, sisterhood events, and much more.

How long is the new member period?

The New Member period lasts 6-8 weeks, during which time you will learn about the history, organization, and policies that shape Kappa Rho Chapter and AOII International. AOII International developed a life-learning program called BRIDGES (Building Relationships and Ideals, Developing Goals and Enriching Self), which offer sessions on things like time management skills and vehicle care.

What are the expectations and obligations of being a member of AOII?

Like every organization, AOII is governed by a set of rules that all members agree to follow, to ensure the chapter runs smoothlyand all members are treated fairly. Upon joining, every member also agrees to pay yearly dues which are used to finance the running of the chapter. New Members will pay one-time only fees when they join which cover their initiation, badge, and a lifetime magazine subscription. Members are also encouraged to get involved in the running of the chapter as much as they can to get the most out of their experience. There are a variety of positions available encompassing a wide range of duties and time commitments.

Sisterhood

Sisterhood is the foundation of the graternity experience. Sisterhood is friendship with a special bond unlike any other. It is women who have chosen each other for lifetime friends. Alpha Omicron Pi fosters relationships that members cherish all their lives. Each young woman is respected for being herself. It is this diversity combined with a great group of sisters that makes Alpha Omicron Pi membership last for a lifetime. Be part of the sisterhood and friendship that makes AOII unique!

Academic Success

The academic portion of your university career is a significant determinant in your future, and AOII wants its members to seriously regard their academic endeavors while at their university. One of the primary purposes of the fraternity system is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members. Through tutoring programs, study hours, creative incentives, and recognition of individual member and chapter achievements, our scholarship program will help you develop expert study skills.

Leadership

Evey member has the opportunity to serve as an executive officer or chair a committee. Serving as an officer and being involved in committee work helps members develop responsibility and leadership skills such as decision making, collaberation, open-mindedness and tolerance, and communication. You will learn how to work with others, manage a budget, run effective meetings, speak in oublic and motivate others -- skills that will hel you not just in your college, but in your personal and professional life.
